How to Wear Statement Sweaters : Styling

Sometimes following the latest fashion trends may require sacrifices and more often than not it’s comfort that falls victim. Luckily this season fashion is going hand in hand with comfort when it comes to one particular trend – statement knitwear. Cosy and sure to keep you warm, these sweaters are bold and attention grabbing, styling them is pure pleasure.

Ladylike ruffles

Ruffles, pointelle knit and candy colours merged together give us and ultra feminine style. To tone down the ladylike, pair this style of sweater with straight-leg jeans and mannish shoes (Oxfords or brogues). Animal print and clear accessories will elevate the look.

Damsel in Distress

Oversize and distressed knit is another avenue to take when choosing a statement sweater. These pieces will go beautifully with lace, satin, sequins and gauzy fabrics like chiffon and organza. Judging by the recent spring-summer shows, tulle is another hot favourite, so don’t wait till spring to wear it.

A modern take on army boots will be a perfect choice to contrast the romantic feel of the tulle and knit pair. Buckled punk styles will do the trick just as well.

Sleeves Make a Difference

Even the simplest of designs are re-imagined with a variety of sleeve types – bell, balloon, leg-o-lamb, bishop – all have a place in fashion this season. To bring the styles to the statement level – just add a chunky knit. Pair the design with hot favourites of the month: pants with stirrups, pointed toe ankle boots, wide belts and corsets and utilitarian accessories.

Colour In

A pop of colour is always a pleasant sight on the gloomiest of autumn days. A colourful oversize jumper with roll neck layered over a leather skirt or trousers and accessorised with hiking boots – is your recipe for a warm, stylish and cheerful fall season.
